Sometimes, Divine Timing doesn’t seem the least bit divine. On one particularly restless day my resulting prayer session (or should I say, wrestling match) gifted me with something even more coveted by my Sagittarian nature than patience—Something To Do!
I became humbly aware that I had been doing more than my share of whining, while totally slacking on all the “tricks” I know to engage in the energy of what I’m working towards. So, I wrote a list of things I could start doing, under the heading, “Act As If.”
I went into the living room to tell Mark about my epiphany and subsequent action plan; the television was on, tuned to our favorite country music video channel. The very next video that came on was “Act As If,” by Sara Evans. After staring speechless at the TV and each other for a moment or two, Mark said he hadn’t seen that video in about three or four years, and despite being a Sara Evans fan, I had never even heard the song before, much less seen the video.
The next day I began implementing my plan, and, as expected, immediately felt happier, clearer, more empowered. Definitely less whiny. That night we decided to watch “The Kids Are Alright” with Julianne Moore and Annette Bening. Halfway through the movie Julianne's character, Jules, has just bought a truck for her new professional landscaping venture, despite having no clients yet. Annette’s character, Nick, is fussing at her about it. In defense, Jules says to Nick, “You’re the one who’s always telling me to ‘act as if’…”
Dear God, I get it. Thanks. PS…nice work with the pop culture references. May I quote you?
